Saturday May 31, 2014 Humphreys Backstage Live will host the second annual Groovin' on the Point from 2pm-7pm. This benefit concert will feature the award winning Correia Middle School Jazz Band and the Correia Middle School Intermediate Guitar Class, lead by musical director Marc Dwyer. Along with these talented students, The First Friday Music Club, directed by professional musician bassist Glen Fisher, will feature some of its amazing kids' bands. At the finale the Sahara Grim Quartet will merge with RevoltAge (without keyboardist/singer Eddie Allen, who will enjoy senior prom before he is off to Berklee College of Music in Boston). Glen Fisher will be his sub and will lead a jam with many of his talented students. Local adult bands performing in support of these great student musicians will be 'Lust 4 Life', featuring Kerry McKay who's son Tate will be performing earlier in the day, and 'The Openers', featuring former Humphreys manager Richard Irby on lead guitar, whose son Seth is bassist for many of the local bands and will perform in the final set. The Point has an abundance of musical talent, with amazing support from the community and parents. This is a combined fundraiser for the nonprofit First Friday Music Club (FFMC or FFC) and Correia Instrumental Music Association (CIMA). Due to the lack of funding for school music, it's programs like these that keep music education thriving in Point Loma. Come on out to the beautiful Humphreys, enjoy an afternoon of great music & raffle prices, and support music education for our kids. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
